Software one would not want to use
August 14, 2007
It is never fun to forget one's mobile, but the program Phone Alone can make it a bit less frustrating.
With Phone Alone you can call your phone if you have left it behind, and control it remotely via another phone. For instance you can forward the calls to a chosen number, get phone book information or lock the phone entirely.
After installing Phone Alone, the program is in sleep mode until a text message with un unlock code is sent to it, or if one calls any of the pre-entered phone numbers and punch in the code on the keypad. After that it is possible to control the phone remotely. For instance it is possible to set an answering message that will be played to anyone trying to call the phone as long as it is remotely controlled and the voice messages can also listened to via another phone. Communication with the software is done by choosing alternatives in the voice response menus of the software.
If one has access to another mobile phone, it is possible to get address book items by sending a text message containing the name of the person whose information is sought, and that information will then be returned in a new text message.
It is also possible to lock the phone completely so that it is unusable until an unlock code is entered.
Phone Alone works with Nokia's newer Series 60 mobiles and a free test version is available here.
If you want to continue using the program, it is 19.95 USD to buy.
