Wireless Ipod with web browser

Apple's latest Ipod positions itself somewhere between a regular Ipod and an Iphone. It is possible to surf using a wireless network, but there is no telephony functionality.

Wireless Ipod with web browser
Touch is the first Ipod equipped with the Safari web browser.

Touch is the first Ipod featuring the Safari web browser. It is perhaps most fair to describe the Ipod Touch as an Ipod with a touch screen. The media functions that are available in the regular Ipods are still the most important, but in addition to this, Apple has integrated WLAN into the Ipod Touch with a max speed of 54 megabits per second. It can be used to surf or to use the pre-installed Youtube application.

It cannot really be called a handheld computer, for instance there are no applications to store and retrieve personal information, but there is a calendar and a contact book. Despite the connectivity, Apple has chosen not to include any e-mail client, which might seem a bit odd. Mail could be read through the web browser, of course, assuming the mail service you are using has a web interface.

The Ipod Touch is in practice as big as an Iphone, but 3 millimeters thinner and 10 grams lighter.

It is said to provide 22 hours of music on one charge and five hours of video playback. The screen is 3.5 inches with a 480x320 resolution.

The Ipod Touch will be available in September in two models, with 8 or 16 gigabyte memory. The price is 299 dollars for the smaller model, and 399 dollars for the larger.
