Playnow is Sony Ericsson's vision of the future

Playnow was launched already in 2004, but in its new guise the service will be the foundation in Sony Ericsson's investment in multimedia. The service is being developed for music, games, themes and background images, and we did get a sample bite tonight.

Mobile games and millions of songs to be available on Playnow.

The Playnow service has been continuously developed from offering ring signals and background images to more advanced content. Nowadays complete songs are being offered, and the music catalogue will be extended with millions of songs, hundred of mobile games and plenty of other things.

Playnow will hold top lists generated from the users' usage patterns at Sony Ericsson's Track ID service. In that way, it will be possible to see what songs are popular, and to find a song via Track ID, to be able to purchase it directly via Playnow.

According to Sony Ericsson, there are at the moment about 200 game titles available for each new phone to be launched, and the number should increase with time.

In addition to mobile access, Playnow will also be available on regular computers. This means that when buying a song in the mobile, it is also possible to download it to the computer. The iead is that large parts of the songs should be free of DRM protection, and thereby not be tied to a specific computer or phone.

Playnow will be launched in this new shape during the second quarter of 2008, in selected markets.
