Sony Ericsson K660 - the web phone

With the new K660 Sony Ericsson is hoping to reach out with Internet in the mobile to regular mobile buyers. A moderate price combined with a horizontal web reader, news ticker with favourites on the the start screen and Google Maps installed from the start.

According to Sony Ericsson, the K660 is geared towards the “web generation”, the people who “handle their lives and their social networks on the Internet”, as Sony Ericsson's Joakim Liljendahl expresses it in the company press statement.

When surfing with the K660, the webpage ends up in horizontal mode on the mobile screen, to get as wide a possible web surfing screen. In addition, the K660 has a traditional “mouse pointer” just like on regular computers. The mouse pointer is controlled with the navigation button, also used to click on links.

The web reader in the K660 is thereby a version not seen before in Sony Ericsson's mobile phones. Now, there is also a zoom function, to zoom in and zoom out web pages. Nokia has a similar solution since some time back in its smartphones.

Sony Ericsson has also worked hard on a new system for quick access to bookmarks, to the web address field, and so on.

The K660 also has turbo 3G support to obtain higher surf speeds than using regular 3G. Among other internet features is the new Play Now service, relaunched by Sony Ericsson to sell among other things music and videos for mobile phones.

Google Maps is installed from start, including map features and a possibility to search a route suggestion by entering the start address and the destionation.

Other things that could be mentioned, the built-in 2-megapixel camera, lacking auto focus but with the possibility to send photos to a personal blog at the Blogger website.

The K660 will be available in two colours. White/lime and black/burgundy. The phone will be available in store the first quarter 2008.
