Nokia's surf boards now handle Palm programs
November 19, 2007
It is now possible to run Palm programs on Nokia's surf boards. That means that the number of programs available is now increased to 30,000 titles.
It is Access, the current owner of the Palm operating system, that has produced the Garnet Virtual Machine (GVM). When having installed the GVM on any of Nokai's surf boards, it is possible to run any of the over 30,000 programs that have been developed for the operating system formerly known as Palm OS, but now available under the Garnet OS name.
When installing GVM, it in itself uses up 3.5 megabyte of surf board memory. If installing a Garnet program, one can choose to set aside between 1 and 32 megabytes for these.
GVM is still in beta stage, which means that it is not entirely completely finished, and that one has to count on it containing a number of bugs. There are free versions available for Nokia 770, 800 and 810 on the Nokia website.
