Nokia stow-away keyboard patent application

Nokia has applied for a patent on a particular technology for a stow-away slide keyboard on a mobile phone or a surfboard. The idea is that the display and the keyboard is unfolded when the bottom part of the device is turned 180 degrees.
The patent application can be viewed at the website of the United States patent and trademark office, USPTO. The idea with a phone having a big, slideable screen or keyboard is not particularly original. Examples are HTC Tytn II or Nokia's own surfboard, the N810. The device seen in the patent application, however, does look like a T-Mobile Sidekick, manufactured by Danger. Danger is by the way the company of Andrew Rubin, of late known as the mind behind the new Google mobile system Android.
The patent is not on the actual form factor of the device, but on how to open it. This is to be done by turning one end of the mobile 180 degrees to unfold the mechanics, a bit lite the way it is possible to turn the keypad of the Nokia 5700, but adding that the entire top part of the phone is affected.
It was Unwired View that dug up the application. As is common concerning patent applications, there is no guarantee that Nokia has a real mobile phone cooking actually using the patent.
