Mobile broadband with Wimax breakthrough in two years

In 2010 the mobile broadband technology Wimax will start to break through, and within five years there will be 80 million Wimax users across the Globe. At least if industry analysts Juniper Research are right.

Wimax is a radio technology for wireless broadband. Today it is used to build fixed wireless broadband networks, and within short it will be available in a version for mobile units, a direct competitor to turbo 3G and its successors.

Mobile Wimax is less useful for voice traffic, but is instead built ground up to handle data efficiently. Industry analysts Juniper Research has made a report on the future of mobile Wimax.

The firm predicts that the usage will start to take off in 2010, and in 2013 there will be 80 million users of mobile Wimax across the globe. The primary markets will be the US, Japan and South Korea, but more than 10 countries will have a Wimax market with a turnover of more than 100 million dollars annually.

Juniper Research also reckons that a number of factors will control the pace of Wimax use. The access of mobiles, computers or USB units with Wimax at a reasonable price. Also, how the operators succeed in profiling the technology towards competing wireless broadband techniques such as turbo 3G and WLAN hotspots.
