Vodafone reveals mobiles from HP and Palm

A launch plan for 2008 from Vodafone has appeared on the net. In it, it is possible to read about upcoming mobiles from HP and Palm.

The information on Vodafone's plans for the year has been published on The Boy Genius Report web page. If it proves correct, HP will release two keyboard mobiles during 2008, codenamed Oak and Silver. None of the two models are similar to HP's earlier keyboard models. Instead, HP Oak is a slide mobile where the keyboard is hidden when not used, and slid aside when used for entering text. The same solution as in the HTC S730, for instance.
HP Silver is also a keyboard mobile, but there instead a so-called SureType keyboard is used, known from some Blackberry models. It does remind us a bit of the Sony Ericsson P1 in that there are two letters on each button. However, unlike the P1, the HP uses a T9 type of system to try to guess the desired letter, instead of having the user press down on one side of the key.
The operating system will be Windows Mobile version 6.1. Both models support turbo 3G up to 7.2 megabit per second. Wireless LAN will also be available, as will internal GPS. The Oak will hit markets in September 2008, and Silver will be in Vodafone's stores in July, according to the plan. The Oak will be sold at a price of 350 euro, and the Silver about 340 euro.
Vodafone is also planning to release at least one Palm model during the year. Behind the label Wanda is a model that appears to be and upgrade of the Palm 500. The Wanda will, like the HP phones, be equipped with Windows Mobile 6.1. It also supports turbo 3G, but the speed is limited to 3.6 megabits per second. GPS is another of the features that will be included. The price will be around 245 euro.
