X1 is Sony Ericsson's first phone with Windows Mobile EXTRA: Xperia X1 is Sony Ericsson's new super mobile

Xperia X1 becomes Sony Ericsson's first Windows mobile, and thereby all major manufacturers except Nokia have Windows mobiles in their portfolios.

The phone is equipped with turbo 3G, HSDPA and HSUPA for higher updata speeds. The screen draws attention with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixel, but on the other hand it only has 65,000 colours. The screen is 3 inches and the phone measures 110 x 53 x 16.7 mm. It weighs 145 g and sports 400 Mbyte internal memory. The camera uses 3.2 megapixel and a photo lamp.

No ready Xperia phone was shown by Sony Ericsson. We have touched the phone, but hardly used it. Instead, Sony Ericsson representatives showed the panels that are the special Sony Ericsson add-ons to the ordinary Windows Mobile. More than that was not revealed to us. One could, however, get a hint of the Windows start screen with additions such as a weather forecast and some other small additions. The keyboard was in metal and other parts in piano black. Compared to competitors as the HTC Tytn, we have to admit it is better designed.

The phone is also equipped with a micro usb slot, abandoning Sony Ericsson's standard connectors for this product series. There are rumours that HTC is manufacturing this mobile for Sony Ericsson, and the text ”3.0 megapixel” on the backside does lead our thoughts to HTC. On the other hand, HTC has not yet released a phone with this kind of screen resolution so far.
