Iphone's new little brother: Samsung F480

The impression we've got when looking closer at Samsung's F480 is actually that it is one of the larger surprises at the fair here in Barcelona. Images of the phone have looked like Samsung's Armani phone, but seeing it live, we notice that it is the menus that impress us.

Where Samsung got its inspiration from is not hard to see. Iphone's new little brother: Samsung F480
Widgets on the start page can be pulled and released by using a finger. Iphone's new little brother: Samsung F480
Samsung has made some neat animations when switching from start screen to menu. Nice!

The fact is that the F480 with touch screen is quite charming. Already when seeing its exterior, the similarities with the Apple Iphone become obvious. It surprises me that I did not see that when I first saw the images. The similarities with the Iphone and Apple's music players with touch screen become even more obvious when starting the screen. There are plenty of graphical details and, in addition to having adapted everything for finger control; Samsung has also spent time on making it look good.

Widgets are a type of tiny programs on the start screen, where it is easy to get the information one needs often. Slide the finger across the screen to change move these widgets.

The similarities to Apple are striking and to some extent border on plagiarism, but it does no doubt look really neat. In lists with songs or messages, the scrolling is made by sliding the finger across the display, and when changing from the main menu to the start screen, it is done with a really nice animation.

Since this is a touch screen mobile, it is important that it reacts well to finger pushes and that is an area where Samsung seems to have improved. I think the scrolling of the F480 is really docile, and it works much better than in the Armani mobile, to make a comparison. Neither that the menus look like in the Apple Iphone is any disadvantage. The great similarity with the Iphone is nothing Samsung denies, and even if it does not feel so creative, it looks good and works quite nicely.
