First impressions: Sony Ericsson K660
March 13, 2008
Sony Ericsson K660 is called a web phone, but most of all, it feels like a fine tuning to perfection of the archetypical Sony Ericsson phone. Here are our first impressions.

When you first hold Sony Ericsson K660 in your hand, it feels like the archetypical Sony Ericsson phone in slim monoblock format. Sure, the colour choices are a bit unusual, but isn't that tupically Sony Ericsson too?
The shape is standard Sony Ericsson. Somewhat higher and wider than W660 for comparison, but it is hardly noticeable. The keys seem like we've seen them all on one Sony Ericsson or another, just not in this specific combination.
There is usually something with the buttons n these Sony Ericsson phones. They're too small, to hard, poorly separated, the function keys are hard to use, etc. But this time round, we haven't come up with any flaws of the keypad after weeks of usage.
They call the K660 a web phone. And surely, the web browser has received a facelift, and it is now disconcertingly similar to the Nokia Minimap browser. Which is a good thing. When you're using the browser, lights light up to signify shortcut buttons for web functions. Of these, the button for switching between overview and detailed view is most useful.
One might argue that a two inch screen is way too little for a phone that you're supposed to surf with. It's probably a cost saving design choice, because K660 is actually unusually low priced for a Sony Ericsson with these specifications. Sony Ericsson usually has trouble competing with Nokia when it comes to features for the price, but this phone holds up well.
The small size of the screen is somewhat compensated by making it extra bright, which is clearly noticeable when you put it beside the W890, which has a screen of similar size. We think the screen is ok for surfing.
